Craftsmanship: The Heart of Our Wooden Rings
At Wooden Ring Store, craftsmanship is the core of our work. We begin with a high-quality piece of wood, either commercially cut veneer that was salvaged or from a solid piece of wood that we turn into a thin strip. Picture this: we soak the veneer in hot water, making it as flexible as a contortionist, then wind it tightly onto a cylinder and glue it together.
Sculpting the Perfect Ring
Next comes the shaping. It’s like sculpting a masterpiece out of clay, only we use wood. We first roughly shape it on a lathe and then fine-tune every curve and edge by hand. We ensure each ring is just right.
Treasures from the Outdoors
Some of the materials we use come straight from the Australian great outdoors. Imagine hiking through the bush or strolling along the beach and finding that perfect seashell. A lot of our customers bring these treasures back, send them to our workshop, and we add them to the personalised rings as an inlay.
Bentwood Technique
Once we achieve the perfect shape, we coat the ring with several layers of protective finish and polish it until it gleams.
We swear by the bentwood technique. It’s reliable, making our rings strong. Sure, metal rings might have the upper hand in sturdiness, but our wooden rings have their own kind of toughness and a natural charm that’s hard to beat.
Creating Metal Rings with Wood Inlays
While speaking of metal rings, let’s see how we make those. It usually starts with a piece of silver or gold that is then shaped into a sleek band. Next, we make a nook for the wood inlay. Once we have the place for the wood, we’ll again bend the wood, insert it into the ring, shape and polish it. The result is a beautiful contrast between the shiny alloy and the organic wood grain. This makes a ring that’s sturdy, it has the wood aspect, and is visually stunning.
